This blog is for descendents of Mary Adkins and her sons. This is a diversified group of individuals who lived predominantely in the same location but were listed in many different counties of Virginia and, after the Civil War, West Virginia.
It is interestig that this Adkins line comes through the female line as Mary was never married to Jacob, thought to be a British Tax Collector who returned to England, deserting his family when the Revolution began. Whether he was recalled by the British government or just ran in fear remains a mystery. Also a mystery is his identity. Many speculate that he was the Earl or related to the Earls of Oxford. However, I have never found any evidence to support the theory.
Mary and her children remianed in the Virginia, West Virginia area for many generations.
My line of Adkins comes through John Reuben Adkins and Eliza Mildred Stowers AND through Squire Hamilton Adkins and Catherine Jewel Plumley. These two lines, the first maternal and the second fraternal both come from Hager, Lincoln County, West Virginia but are not related for 7 (seven) generations. My husbands maternal grandmother is Mabel Adkins daughter of John and Eliza Adkins and his fraternal grandfather is Millard Cesco Adkins son of Squire and Catherine Adkins. Millard was killed in 1939 at Patterson Foundry in East Liverpool Ohio and Mabel went on to marry twice more before she passed away in 1984.
The family of John Reuben Adkins migrated to the East Liverpool Ohio area around 1929. Eventually the majority of the children would settle in this area.
